General Information

The Division of Recreational Services is one of the largest employers of registered students on the University of Iowa campus. Most of the facilities are located on campus, within walking distance of the University's Residence Halls. There are many daytime, evening and weekend employment opportunities involving recreation programs and facilities.

Field House Clerical Staff

Duties: Provide positive customer service and be support staff for full time Recreational Services staff; Be informed of all Recreational Services programs and services and all Building Schedules; Working front counter assisting and providing efficient service of our services and programs to our customers; Work as support staff to our full time staff in that we answer the phone, help with spreadsheet and document projects, use copiers, fax machines and point of sale software and do other jobs that need to be completed by us for the full time staff; Responsible for balancing cash register totals of sales during work shifts; Be reliable and willing to take on extra responsibilities and shifts that need to be covered.

Requirements: Must be reliable and have good communication skills, smile, be friendly, helpful and courteous to all customers and full time staff.

Work Schedule: Mornings, evenings and weekend shifts

Rate of Pay: starts at $7.25 per hour

Personal Trainers

Duties: The University of Iowa’s Personal Trainers provide personalized attention, professional instruction, and exercise programming to each client to maximize his/her health, fitness, and wellness goals.

Work Schedule: Varies. Max of 20 hours during the school year, 40 hours during the summer.

Requirements: Current Personal Training certification, Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Honesty and personal integrity, Enthusiasm, positive energy, and friendliness

Recreation Building Supervisor

 

Duties: Position involves providing customer service to Recreation Building patrons. Duties to include, but not limited to: answering phones, selling passes, checking passes and light cleaning. Must have good communication skills.

Work Schedule: The Recreation Building is open from 6:00 AM - 10:30 PM, Monday - Friday and 8:00 AM - 10:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday. First priority will be given to those who are willing to work Football Saturdays in the Fall.

Rate of Pay: $7.25 per hour

Rental Center Supervisor

Duties: keeping the rental center organized including running the cash register, checking out and cleaning rental equipment, inspection of equipment for damage/repairs, doing appropriate repairs to equipment, keep equipment organized on shelves, Adventure Trip and Lifetime Leisure Skills equipment check out, packing, cleaning, and organizing of equipment on shelves, help at events and clinics put on by Touch The Earth. Good customer service is required.  The supervisor will be trained on what to expect while working here and how to perform all the duties. 

Qualifications:  Hard work ethic, good communication, excellent reliability, ability to manage a register, works well with others and by themselves, able to transport self to the Outdoor Rental Center (connected to Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex).  A love for the outdoors and knowledge about Iowa’s outdoors is preferred but not required.

Work Schedule:  The Outdoor Rental Center will be open Summer hours from April 1st – October 31st.  Monday – Thursday 4 to 7 PM, Friday 4 to 9 PM, Saturday 8 AM to Noon, and Sunday Noon to 9 PM. 

Rate of Pay: starts at $7.25 per hour

Lifeguard

Intramural Officials

 

Officiate some of the 30 sports offered by the Recreational Services Intramural Department. No experience necessary.

Hawkeye Recreation Field Supervisors

 

Responsible for supervising the Hawkeye Recreation Fields, handling cash sales and deposits, managing field schedules and user groups, some upkeep of field and court areas, enforcing policies and procedures and other duties as assigned. Must be available late afternoons, evenings and some weekends.

This position is only open late spring to early fall.

Student Marketing Assistant

 

Assist the full time marketing staff in developing, designing, implementing and maintaining departmental marketing plans and materials. Assist with special projects and take pictures at events. A background in marketing, communications or graphic design is desirable.
