Hawkeye Kids Camp

Recreational Services serves the University Community by offering recreational activities. Family Services provides assistance for UI Students, Faculty and Staff who have children. Together they are offering an all day youth camp over Spring Break.

Camp Details

Hawkeye Kids Camp is open to youth, grades Kindergarten through 6th. The child's legal guardian must be associated wtih the University as a student, faculty or staff member.

Camp will take place at the UI Field House, Monday, March 17th - Friday, March 21st from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Camp drop-off begins at 7:00 AM and pick-up ends at 5:30 PM in the South Gym of the Field House.

Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. Campers will need to bring their own lunch Monday - Thursday. Lunch will be provided on Friday. Campers will also need to wear clothes that will allow them to be active throughout the day.

Camp activities may include but are not limited to, board games, arts and crafts, basketball, soccer, badminton and fun activities like scavenger hunts, obstacle courses and talent shows.

 

Typical Camp Day

7:00 AM - Arrival Begins, Structured Free Time
8:30 AM - Morning Announcements & Snack
9:30 AM - Gym Games
10:00 AM - Arts & Crafts
10:45 AM - Special Guest/Activity
11:45 AM - Lunch
12:15 PM - Quiet Activities
12:45 PM - Specialty Camps
2:00 PM - Large Group Activity
3:00 PM - Afternoon Snack
4:00 PM - Pick-Up Begins
5:30 PM - Pick-Up Ends

 

The Cost

The camp fee is $150 and includes supervision, materials for activities, snacks and lunch on Friday.

This amount is due at the time that you register and includes a $50 non-refundable deposit. UI Charge, Check or Credit Card (Master Card or Visa) are accepted.

The Staff

Jen Kovach - Camp Director

Jen resides in Iowa City with her husband and two children. She works for the Iowa City School District as a Special Education Associate at Roosevelt Elementary. She recently located to Iowa from Wisconsin where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and worked at a YMCA for ten years as a School Age Child Care and Camp Director. She really enjoys working with kids and is looking forward to the Hawkeye Kids Camp.

Liz Hintz - Head Counselor

Liz resides in Iowa City and works at Iowa City West High School. She has her degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and has worked as an Assistant Camp Director and Lead Teacher for a YMCA.

Camp Counselors

All camp counselors have a background in childcare or early elementary education. They have all had background checks.

 

Registration

The registration deadline is Monday, March 10th. The camp is limited to 40 campers and could fill prior to the deadline. Camp is filled on a first come basis. When camp is full, a waiting list will be established.

To register your child for camp:

1. Complete the Application Form & Medical Form

2. Pay Registration Fee - UI Charge, Check or Credit Card are accepted. Make checks payable to "The University of Iowa". Include payment information on the application form.

3. Send Application, Medical Form & Payment By Campus Mail or US Mail To:

4. Watch for Confirmation Letter - After the camp application form is received, a confirmation letter and general camp information will be emailed to you.
